Passive House under construction

CHEPSTOW AVE

A beautiful mix of Japanese Architecture and High Performance House Design.  When entering this house you are faced with the stunning contrast between white washed ply walls and two darkly stained douglas fir logs set high into the cathedral ceilings.

WOODLAU RISE

This 70's inspired home is designed to meet Passive House Certification standards.  Being super insulated, airtight, with a mechanical heat recovery ventilation system and triple glazed PVC windows, this home requires very little heating.  On the coldest winter days the client turns on their 1kW heater for a couple of hours to make the house warm and cozy.

GOSFORTH WAY

STODDART TCE

Our clients had lived in Diamond Harbour for many years in a tiny 1950s batch. When it was time for an upgrade, they purchased a section and worked with Third Little Pig and Kingsbury Architecture to design a High Performance Home.  The design of this home has captured the views of Diamond Harbour to perfection.

Renovation

PATIKI PLACE

This compact well designed house leaves no space wasted. The skylights and windows in the loft bedrooms allows for stargazing and views of Lyttelton Harbour.  Third Little Pig worked closely with the client to create an industrial feel interior that suited their day to day living.

CRESSWELL AVE

The owners wanted a warm, dry, healthy home for their retirement.  They chose Third Little Pig for their experience in building High Performance Houses. The interior of this house has allowed a perfect blending of old and new.  The clients collection of antique furniture and ornate tea cups are complimented by a high, white cathedral ceiling and an airy, light open plan living.

PRINCES STREET

Purpose built as staff accomodation this house located in the Mackenzie district has been built to withstand the cold.   It features the latest Zehnder heat recovery ventilation system, PVC tilt and turn windows, Airtightness wraps and spectacular views of the mountains.

KOROMIKO CRES

Nestled on a back section with a view of Diamond Harbour, this compact house has everything a modern day building should have.  Solar, Heat recovery Ventilation System, Airtightness wraps, and PVC tilt and turn windows.

YOUNG STREET

Our clients on this project came to us because they knew of our passion for building warm, dry

and healthy homes. We’ve designed their Earthquake Rebuild to be just that. Our computer modelling shows that during a cold Christchurch winter, the house will only require 1.9kw of heat to keep it at 20 degrees. That’s the same as turning on the toaster!

LAMORNA ROAD

Being an Architectural Designer herself, Fiona knew what she wanted when she designed her family's new home. The house needed to have a small footprint, be low maintenance, warm and comfortable. Fiona plans to enter the house into the Living Building Challenge. This meant the house needs to create more energy than it uses - Zero Net Energy.

We constructed the home using Magroc SIPS panels for the floor, walls and roof.  This created a super insulated home which requires very little heating.  A Lunos Heat Recovery Ventilation system keeps the air fresh and healthy.  Solar panels with battery storage were installed by CPS Solar.

The exterior was clad with Totara sourced from wind blown trees.  The interior was lined with a mixture of white washed ply wood and plasterboard.  The solid Matai timber floors create a warm glow.  This flooring was also sourced from wind blown trees.

BARETTA ST

The owners of this property wanted improved indoor/outdoor flow, as well as proper insulation and new improved bathrooms.

What the Owners Love

"The view out through the new sliding doors is brilliant. It creates the indoor/outdoor flow we've been after for years. Having a larger deck means we can sit around our outdoor table comfortably, it used to be a real squeeze. The new layout for the bathrooms works really well. We’re glad we took Simon’s suggestions on that."

WANDER LODGE

This is our own cosy holiday home that we designed and built ourselves! We love the plywood interior and the outdoor living spaces. We also love our outdoor pizza oven!

What the Owners Love

"We love the plywood interior, it has a very warm feeling, whilst also being very durable. No scruffs and scrapes like a painted surface. The house is small, but doesn’t feel it. Everything has its place and no space is wasted. The flow out to the deck and outdoor area is fantastic, having the outdoor cooking area undercover means it gets used all year round. We can cook pizza even when it’s snowing! We rent the house out as a holiday rental when we are not using it. All our guests love it too, and many come back time and time again."

WISTERIA PLACE

These owners desperately needed a house that didn’t leak! They also wanted to renovate their bathroom, kitchen and create a covered outdoor living area. They now love living in their new improved quality home

What the Owners Love

"A house that doesn't leak! We are so glad we now have a house that is built to last. The improved layout of the kitchen works so much better. And the soft close drawers are wonderful. The new outdoor living area brings such a different feeling to the house. We hardly ever used to spend time outside. Now we are out there all the time."

CASTLE HILL

The owners wanted a rustic log cabin in the mountains. A warm, cosy home for family abd friends to congregate during weekends skiing and fishing.

What the Owners Love

The huge open space created by the high pitch roof with the double log ridge beams. We love sitting buy the fire in the evening with a glass of red telling a few stories with friends. The solid Matai Timber floors create a magnificent warm feeling. Simon and his team did a fantastic job with making everything rustic. It feels 50 years old already.

Office / Sleep out

We built ourselves a home office that resides in our front yard.  It receives plenty of compliments and we often have people asking us to build one for them.

These can be built without a building consent to your specifications and make great offices, sleep-outs, studios etc.  Contact us if you’d like us to build one for you.
